The Purpose of this Page

My long term goal is to have my home run like a well-oiled machine or at least to where it seems like it. :) Will I get there? Maybe!

I plan on this page being filled with homemaking tips, cleaner recipes and the like!

Cleaning Schedule

Along with the daily chores, I call my “daily must-do’s” (dishes, making beds, laundry and the like) I have compiled schedule having one day devoting special attention to each room.

  • Monday: Bedrooms
  • Tuesday: Kitchen
  • Wednesday: Bathroom
  • Thursday: Living room, mending/sewing
  • Friday: Errands, catch up.
  • Saturday: More catch up!
  • Sunday: Church, Sunday dinner at the farm, rest, evening church.

Clothes

  • Have a jumper and top that you often wear together? Better yet, have a whole outfit you wear together? Hang them on the same hanger
  • Make an inventory of your clothing and outfits
  • Before you make an item check to see if you really need it. It might serve you better if you spend your sewing time on mending instead of making another outfit that you don’t necessarily need.
  • When you make/ buy an article, get rid of an older piece of clothing. This way you won’t be overrun by too many clothes!

Bathroom

  • Use old cottage cheese containers to hold toothbrushes, razors, floss, etc.

Laundry

  • My laundry schedule goes as such Monday- Aaron’s work clothes, Tuesday- Whites and delicates, Wednesday- My clothes and Aaron’s dress shirts, Thursday- Towels, Friday and Saturday- whatever
  • Have separate hampers. One for whites, another for very dirty clothing and so on. Designate different days to certain hampers. So this will help keep a steady laundry schedule.
  • Sock bags are nice for delicate items and keeping pairs of socks together.

Pest Control

  • To eliminate pest problems before they start never leave food laying out overnight and clean up crumbs and spills right away.
  • Limit food to the kitchen and dining room
  • For pantries and cellars be sure to keep mouse traps always set and check them.
  • And think of the unthinkable, yes a mouse can chew threw that box of cereal and plastic tote!
  • Never leave poisons out where children and babies can get into them.

Fruit Fly Extermination Recipe

You’ll need:
  • A small, shallow bowl.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Lemon Scented Dish soap
  1. Put the vinegar and soap into the shallow dish.
  2. Place where there is an infestation
  3. Watch them flock to it!
You don’t need a lot of dish soap, just enough to break up the water tension so they can get stuck and drown.
